Stimson: My strikers lack confidence

STIMSON: "...the boys have looked good in the training sessions but unfortunately at the moment they're not firing on all cylinders"

GILLINGHAM manager Mark Stimson believes a lack of confidence is hindering his strike force.

The Gills have scored just once from open play in their last six games and Saturday's goalless draw against Yeovil was the club's seventh blank in front of goal since the start of the year.

Yeovil were there for the taking but another shot-shy performance cost the Gills the chance of three points.

Stimson said: "Strikers always need an arm round their shoulder and to be told they're the best thing ever, even if they're missing chances, because they live and die on their confidence.

"That's probably what's happening to ours at the moment. We've concentrated on the attacking play and the boys have looked good in the training sessions but unfortunately at the moment they're not firing on all cylinders.

"I'm not used to it, I'm used to sitting there watching two, three, four, five or six goals going in but it's not. What we have to do is keep working at it."

All the action and reaction from Gillingham's draw with Yeovil in Monday's Medway Messenger.
