Gills boss Mark Stimson

Mark Stimson knows that Gillingham will have to produce one of their best ever performances under his management to win a place in the FA Cup third round.

The Gillingham manager saw his side produce a great performance to earn a replay against Stockport on Saturday but knows they will have to be even better to progress.

The replay is on Tuesday, December 9 with the winners hosting Premier League Aston Villa in a money-spinning tie.

Before Stimson can think of that match, however, he first has to overcome a massive hurdle at Stockport’s Edgeley Park.

“It’s going to be difficult because although they are good on their travels they’re not bad at home,” he said. “They drew 1-1 with Yeovil away in the last round and were 5-0 winners at home in the replay.

“We’re going to have to defend like we did on Saturday and then if we do get the opportunity with a chance, we have to take it.

“We will look forward to Saturday’s league game now and when this game comes around, if we can put the same effort and quality into it then maybe we could nick a result.

“If we were to go there and get a win it would definitely rank as one of my best results."
