Gills boss Mark Stimson won’t be making a move for Grays defender Jon Ashton.

Stimson was keen to sign the 28-year-old last season, but despite failing to land defender Danny Cullip last week he is unlikely to return to Grays again for Ashton.

Stimson said: “Jon is on the back burner as we need to attack the top end of the pitch and that’s what we’re looking for – unless a player like Kevin Maher comes and stands out.”
