Stimson wants more away day success

STIMSON: "We will go to Walsall reminding the boys of their last trip in terms of the performance"

Walsall v Gillingham

GILLINGHAM travel to play-off chasing Walsall in Coca Cola League 1 on Saturday looking to build on their last trip on the road while rueing their recent performances at home.

Mark Stimson's men beat Huddersfield on their travels on January 12 but they came in for criticism after losing at home to MK Dons in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and Northampton in the league.

The memory of Tuesday night's hard-fought and excellent point against Oldham at Priestfield lives on and Stimson wants to use that and the Huddersfield result as a platform for success on the road this weekend.

He said: "Walsall away looks a tough game on paper but then Northampton and Oldham at home look like easier games and we know what happened there.

"We will go to Walsall reminding the boys of their last trip in terms of the performance and the high standard they set and hopefully we’ll come away from something."

Walsall boast a frontline of Tommy Mooney and Michael Ricketts and Stimson is aware they pose a significant danger despite their combined age of 66.

He said: "They are very good and dangerous players who can change a match - we need something like that because since Chris Dickson has gone back we're playing, perhaps, better football but we don't have a player who can score a goal out of nothing.

"We don't have one but Walsall have two in Mooney and Ricketts."

Teenager keeper Chris Kiely is on the bench as Derek Stillie steps up to deputise for the suspended Simon Royce while Simon King will miss the trip, as will Dennis Oli, although they are both nearing full fitness.
