CHARLTON striker Kevin Lisbie has been recovering in hospital after an operation to remove a non-malignant tumour from his nose.

Specialists investigating a series of nosebleeds suffered by the Jamaica international diagnosed an extremely rare benign growth on Friday, that led to an operation that night, and saw the 27-year-old spend the following day on a ventilator in intensive care.

However, by Sunday night he was fully awake and talking to his family, and the forward is expected to make a full recovery.

The condition was detected swiftly and the club and Lisbie have extended their thanks to the nursing staff who have cared for the forward.

Wayne Diesel, the head of Charlton's medical department, said: "These growths can grow to the size of a fist if left undiagnosed and they are seldom diagnosed so quickly.

"To have the operation so speedily was incredible and it's a great testament to the phenomenal care he has received from all the specialists and nursing staff, who I'd like to thank on behalf of the club and Kevin."

Manager Alan Curbishley said: "Our thoughts have been with Kevin over the last few days. It was a major operation but we're pleased it's been a success and we're looking forward to him coming out of hospital soon."
