Two goals from Arsenal Ladies' Kelly Smith ends Gillingham Ladies' run in the FA Women's Cup

Gillingham Ladies' FA Women's Cup run came to an end at Arsenal on Sunday.

The Gills lost their fifth round tie 2-0 after a Kelly Smith double in the second half in the game played at Boreham Wood FC.

The measure of Gillingham's efforts can be marked against the fact that Arsenal made only three changes to their side from the one that played in the Champions League last month and their squad was mostly made up of international players.

Gills keeper Faye Baker saved from Smith early on but Gills proved difficult for the Gunners to break down.

Gills cleared an effort off the line early in the second half but their brave rearguard came to an end on the hour mark when Emma Tune fouled Smith in the box and she tucked away the spot-kick.

Any hopes of a Gills comeback ended with 10 minutes left when Smith's long-range left-foot effort found the top corner.

Gills won the Kent Women's Cup final at Maidstone's Gallagher Stadium last Thursday, beating Charlton 3-0.

Gillingham: Baker, Blackie, Cooper, Davis, Gibbons, Gurr, Phillips, Taylor, Tune, Whinnett, Fulgence. Subs: Ahern, Carlton, Keigh, Long.
