Cody McDonald’s late equaliser at Swindon thrilled Gills boss Martin Allen.

It was the second time in the game that his team had come back from a goal down.

Allen said: “I loved seeing that goal go in from Cody McDonald infront of our supporters. I really loved it.

“If my knee was better I would probably have done a sliding celebration into the corner flag but my left knee wouldn’t allow it. It was a magical moment infront of our fans for all our players.

“I patted all of the players on the back and said ‘fantastic’.

Up until that point Allen had kept his cool despite seeing his side concede two goals while dominating.

The opening Swindon goal came just 12 minutes in.

“It is important I keep cool and keep calm and try and make good judgements to help the players and help them get back. It is no point criticising them or having a go at them. I used to do that years ago but I don’t do that anymore.

“I don’t really change. I liked it when Cody scored but the rest of the time I didn’t change. It doesn’t change me.

“We were dominating the second half when they scored that goal and we were dominating the first half when they scored that goal.

“We had three or four good chances (in the first half), which you don’t normally get when you play away from home.

“That lot played in the play-offs (last season) and just bought half of Tottenham’s reserve team, players that I tried to get but Tottenham wouldn’t let me have. It was a good result and I am pleased.”
