Peter Taylor has accepted that he can’t change Gillingham’s style overnight.

Gills lost 2-1 to Preston at Priestfield in League 1 on Saturday in Taylor’s first game back in charge of the club.

The interim boss is trying to encourage his team to pass the ball more often rather than go route one. But it’s a process that he knows will take time.

“There were some good things in the performance (on Saturday) but also a few sloppy things,” said Taylor. “But I can understand it to a point, because they have been asked to play a little bit of a different way.

“We have all got different opinions on the game, there are no right or wrongs. I might ask certain people to do certain things that would be different to someone else doing it, but it was different to the players and I thought they did okay.

“There were times where we made mistakes and wrong decisions in wrong areas but I can live with it when they try to pass."
