Peter Taylor rates Gillingham’s chances of staying up despite their recent blip.

Three defeats in a row have seen relegation rivals close the gap on Gills, although Taylor’s side are 16th in League 1.

He was unhappy with the performance at Bristol City but believes results before their losing run have laid the foundations for survival.

The Gills boss said: “We know we’ve got some tough games. We’ve got 12 matches to go – six at home, six away – so we know where we stand and we’ve got to get four or five wins to give ourselves a chance.

“And we have given ourselves a good chance but it’s a disappointing one (at Bristol City).”

Gills climbed into the top half of the table at the start of February but Taylor insisted then they were still in a dogfight.

Recent form has showed that and Taylor has called on his side to improve on their performance at Bristol City when they host Crawley on Saturday.

He added: “It’s not over, simple as that. I’ve known that for a while but I still think we’re capable of doing better than we did, so we’ve got to show that next week.”
