Tennis veteran's GB call-up

Margate Tennis Club veteran Bob Whitehead has been named in the Great Britain squad for next month’s world championships in Turkey.

It is his second appearance in the event, having played in the 2001 competition in Austria when GB and England finished fifth out of 18 countries. This time 30 nations will be competing.

Bob’s latest call-up comes after he was being named captain of England Over-55s for this year’s Home International tournament, against Scotland, Ireland and Wales which he described as the “proudest sporting honour” of his life.

He has had a distinguished career for club and county in singles and doubles, and press officer Vanessa Webb says everybody at Margate wishes him every success.
