Top pole vaulters at sports day

A NUMBER of the UK’s top male and female pole vaulters are getting ready for The Dillinger-Scott Street Vault being held in Ashford town centre on Saturday.

Athletes competing are UK record holder Nick Buckfield (PB 5.81m), Ben Flint (5.40m), Christian North (5.30m), Leigh Walker (4.90m) Paul Jones (PB 4.76m).

The women vaulters are Liz Hughes (4.16cm), Hilary Smith (3.83m), Larissa Lowe (3.60m) and local U17 athletes Anne-Marie Price and Lizzie Yarnold.

The men's competition starts at noon with the women’s starting at 2pm. The event is a part of a town centre sports day.

Event organisers Derek Laws and Peter Le Rossignol said “It’s a great opportunity to promote the sport of athletics to the people of Ashford.”
