DOVER Athletic responded to going top of Ryman League Division 1 on Saturday by turning in one of their worst performances of the season as they went down 4-0 at Hastings on Tuesday.

Hastings went in front on seven minutes when Sam Adam netted from a tight angle. And with Whites looking shaky at the back it was no surprise when Shaun Loft doubled the home side's advantage six minutes later.

It was 3-0 after 19 minutes when Loft was left all alone to control a deep cross and fire home.

Hastings threatened running up a cricket score when they made it 4-0 before the break, but a slight Dover improvement in the second half prevented any further embarrassment.

But Whites stayed top of the league after neither Tonbridge Angels nor Horsham could capitalise on their slip up. Tonbridge followed up their 4-1 defeat at the weekend with a 2-0 reverse at Whyteleafe.

Ramsgate were therefore able to close the gap on the leaders with their 2-2 draw at Banstead Athletic. Goals from Shaun Welford and David Cory earned Jim Ward's side a point.

And it was even better news for Cray Wanderers, who came from behind to win at bottom-of-the-table Corinthian Casuals having failed to win their last seven league matches.

The home side took the lead against the run of play after 14 minutes when Gary Abbott was on hand to slot home.

An own goal by Michael Dunne put Cray in front and then a second from Abbott made the points safe, even though Billy Jackons's 75th-minute goal reduced the deficit.

Ashford Town failed to build on their weekend win at Burgess Hill Town and slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Dulwich Hamlet.

Meanwhile, Chatham Town progressed to the third round of the errea Cup with a 3-2 victory at Barking & East Ham United.
