TAKALOO: shugged off injury to retain his title

MARGATE boxer Takaloo will find out on Friday the extent of the wrist injury he suffered in his 12-round points win over Argentinian Jose Rosa Gomez.

He was forced to battle through pain barrier to retain his WBU world light middleweight title in front of a sell out crowd at York Hall in Bethnal Green

The Margate Rock is due to visit hospital for another x-ray on his right hand, after doctors told him he had a hairline fracture of the right scaphoid, the same injury that England football captain David Beckham suffered during last week's 2-1 win against South Africa in Durban.

Despite the injury suffered just seconds after the first bell, Takaloo got a unanimous decision from two of the three ringside judges and was happy with the outcome.

Relaxing at home this week Takaloo admitted the injury stopped him winning the fight much earlier. He said:" I floored him with a left hook early on, but then caught him on top of the head going in to finish him off, and that's when I got injured. I was in a lot of pain.

"It was really over then, but everytime I threw a punch it hurt, and I had to fight one handed for the rest of the fight. He was a rough and rugged opponent, but I controlled the fight"
