Welling were left to rue missed chances after they drew 0-0 at Barnet on Tuesday in Skrill Premier.

Jamie Day's men would have taken a point beforehand but on the balance of play it was probably two points dropped by the final whistle.

That the Wings limited Barnet to just three attempts on target in the 90 minutes and it was the first occasion this season that the hosts failed to score at their new Hive base underlined just how impressive the visitors were.

All that was missing was the final touch in front of goal.

David Stephens, Barnet's stand-out player, headed wide on 16 minutes before Welling forced four chances in a six-minute spell. Doug Bergqvist's header was cleared, Lee Clarke shot wide, Harry Beautyman nearly capitalised on a Graham Stack fumble and then the visitors had a goal disallowed after Stack dropped the ball under pressure from Joe Healy.

Welling keeper Lee Butcher was called into action on 35 minutes when he saved smartly to keep out Harry Crawford's low drive.

The visitors introduced Blaine Hudson for Doug Bergqvist and both sides traded early chances. Barnet's Kieron Cadogan shot straight at Butcher while Jake Gallagher's driving run set up Ross Lafayette but his right-foot shot was deflected behind by Stephens, who then came to his side's rescue with a sliding challenge on Loui Fazakerley.

Despite losing Jack Obersteller to injury, Welling continued to create the better chances. Clarke nodded down for Lafayette but Stack was equal to his first-time strike and then substitute Kurtis Guthrie sped past the full-back and set-up Dyer, but his right-foot shot went narrowly over the bar.

In the 81st minute, Fraser Franks missed Beautyman's corner at the near post and then, with virtually the last touch of the game, Clarke headed over unmarked at the far post from a corner when he looked certain to score.
