Kent v Somerset

Kent went into today's re-scheduled Friends Provident Trophy quarter-final clash with Somerset in Beckenham without their leading one-day run-scorer Martin van Jaasrveld.

The South African, who scored 480 runs at an average of 96 in the qualifying rounds, remained in Canterbury with his wife Jill who is expecting the birth of their first child.

Neil Dexter was drawn in the replace van Jaarsveld at No3 in the order, but otherwise Spitfires name their expected side.

Somerset selected South African paceman Alfonso Thomas while John Francis replaces the injured Peter Trego.

Kent had to move the game to the Worsley Bridge Road ground after heavy rain left their Canterbury headquarters awash on Tuesday evening.

Much to the chagrin of Martin Saggers, they were also forced to abandon a three-day 2nd XI game that started here yesterday between Kent second string and a combined Yorkshire and Northamptonshire side.

When the game was halted the visiting side were struggling on 119-9 after 43 overs, Saggers having taken all nine for 62 runs from 22 overs.
