ARMOUR: "I need to get another win now and then hopefully face Power"

JOHNNY ARMOUR will be hoping to produce his Sunday best when he returns to the ring on April 2.

The 37-year-old former European, Commonwealth and World bantamweight champion will be in action at York Hall, Bethnal Green, with his sights firmly set on a final title shot. His opponent is yet to be confirmed.

Armour’s emphatic points decision win over Jamaican Delroy Spencer last month put him on the road to a shot at Martin Power’s British bantamweight crown. Victory next month could set up a showdown with Power.

Armour’s manager Eugene Maloney said: "Johnny showed against Spencer that he still has something to give. He has a great CV. He was in the gym three days after beating Spencer.

"If you cheat in this game you get found out but Johnny is a credit to boxing. Martin Power is managed by my brother Frank and a clash is a possibility if Johnny wins next month."

Armour, who has been working hard with trainer Alan Smith at Deptford’s Fight Factory, said: "I felt a little nervous before my fight against Spencer because I knew if I lost I would probably have to retire.

"But I was pleased with my performance. I need to get another win now and then hopefully face Power. He’s a game boxer who throws lots of punches but I can beat him."
