Winger John quick to stake his claim

Leo Roget is one of three trialists released by Gillingham

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson will give trialist Alistair John more time to impress.

John made brief but impressive appearances for the Gills on the right wing during the opening two pre-season games against Stevenage and Faversham.

The 20-year-old’s career was put on hold after being stabbed last year while at Stevenage under Stimson.

The Gills boss will give the winger an outing on Tuesday during a practice match at the training ground and could test him against Ipswich on Wednesday night.

Stimson has, however, decided to release three other trialists.

Central defender Leo Roget and midfielders Alex Bailey and Nigel Atangana have been told their futures lie elsewhere.
