WELLING were forced to settle for a point against Blue Square South strugglers Sutton on Saturday.

The Wings lacked firepower in front of goal and a succession of chances came and went.

However, it was the visitors who had the better of the first half openings and they should have led but Jason Henry inexplciably headed wide unmarked from six yards.

Welling were restricted to long range efforts but keeper Phil Wilson's handling proved effective in the wet conditions.

Craig Dundas wasted another good opening for Sutton at the start of the second half but the visitors ran out of steam up front.

Welling looked the more likely with wide man Orlando Smith causing plenty of problems but he was restricted to efforts from distance as the Wings' league goal drought extended to four games.

Sutton were reduced to 10 men with 10 minutes left when Henry saw red for a headbutt on Chris Moore.

With six mnutes to go Smith beat the offside trap but his cross-shot went just wide, while substitute Jackson Ohakam shot over deep into stoppage time when left unmarked at the far post.
