Matt Bodkin has joined Grays Athletic

WELLING boss Adrian Pennock has insisted he will not rush into signing a replacement for winger Matt Bodkin.

Bodkin played his last game at Park View Road in the FA Trophy draw with Basingstoke before joining Nationwide Conference Grays Athletic on a free transfer.

The onus is on Pennock to bolster his midfield but the Wings manager wants to take his time to get the right player.

Pennock said: "I’ve enquired about a player but his club won’t release him at the moment. He was going to come but his club had a few injuries and have put it on hold.

"It means I have to be patient but it also gives the rest of the squad a chance to show what they can do."

With Jamie Day facing a suspension following his red card against Basingstoke and Bodkin departed, Pennock has indicated that he will try to bring an additional midfielder in on loan to the club.
