Braintree Town 1 Welling 1

Rookie substitute Richard Stevens recused a point for goal-shy Welling in Blue Square South on Saturday.

The Wings had enough chances to win the game four-times over but the youngster showed his colleagues how to finish with a last-gasp strike.

The mnatch did not finish until 5.15pm after a 17-minute delay when referee P. McCaul was forced off injured early in the second half.

By that stage, Braintree keeper Craig Holloway had already produced two fine saves at the end of the first half to deny Lee Blackburn and former Braintree striker James Baker.

When the game did resume, Holloway continued his one-man defiance with string of excellent stops.

With 12 minutes left he denied Charlie Sheringham before thwarting the same player six minutes from time. Next up it was Moses Adebola who was twice denied before the on-loan striker somehow fired over from six yards.

Welling were made to pay some 12 minutes into added time when Sanchez Ming horribly missed his clearance and Chris Piper danced his way through the visiting defence before giving former Bromley striker Danny Hockton the simplest of tap-ins.

Wings keeper Charlie Mitten then denied Hockton and it proved a crucial stop as with virtually the final kick of the game Stevens was on hand to finally end Holloway's resistance.

Thurrock 1 Bromley 1

Meanwhile, Bromley let a lead slip as they could only manage a draw at strugglers Thurrock.

The Lillywhites went ahead on 13 mnutes when Kenny Beaney's cutback was finished off from eight yards by Ryan Hall.

But the leveller came in the 67th minute when former Welling forward Che Stadhart produced a sweet volley from the edge of the box to give Bromley keeper Gareth Williams no chance.
