Work starts on golf clubhouse wrecked by fire

REBUILDING work is underway on the fire-ravaged clubhouse at Chart Hills Golf Club.

It was hit by fire in September, which destroyed two-thirds of the building, but the club still managed to stage the first round of the European Tour's qualifying school soon afterwards.

Officials have vowed to rebuild the clubhouse bigger and better than before and make it a fitting venue for the Ladies' English Open, which owners Leaderboard Group have hosted for the last three years.

Rod Park, general manager at Chart Hills, said: "The fire was a devastating blow but we were determined not to let it get the better of us.

"It’s not something we have taken lightly and we have had a long planning process, but now we can see the new clubhouse starting to take shape – and we are confident that it will be worth the wait."
