Gillingham boss Martin Allen is hoping his strict approach will help the League 1 side

Martin Allen hopes his strict approach to the discipline within his Gillingham squad will be the recipe for success.

The Gills boss laid down the law last week and got the right response, as the Gills won 3-0 at Crewe, ending their winless start to the season.

Internal discipline and structure is something he’s preaching loud and clear.

Allen said: “We have to do everything together. I stand at the door and wait for everyone to come in for training in the morning, like a Victorian school headmaster.

“They all train hard together and there is no criticism of each other. We have to work hard together and support each other – those that have not been in the team have had to do extra work.

“If they don’t come in on time, then we close the door on them. They don’t work with us, they go home.

"If they can’t be bothered to be at training on time, then I don’t want them at Gillingham anymore. They can go home and stay at home. They are finished. That’s how it is – zero tolerance."
