There was an innocent explanation for a '100mph plus' chase along the M20 this morning.

The pursuit along the coastbound stretch of the motorway between Maidstone and Ashford reportedly saw officers leap out of the way of a speeding Skoda Octavia.

One driver, who witnessed the incident, said: "It was the most adrenaline-fuelled high-speed chase you will ever see. A dark blue Skoda Octavia was being chased by four police cars at at least 100mph.

"The way it was all managed was excellent, it was like something out of a movie. At one point the car swerved on to the hard shoulder and officers had to run into the road to avoid it."

The motorist said drivers were slowed to 40mph during the chase, with the pursued vehicle stopped just before junction 9 for Ashford.

A police spokesman confirmed the pursuit was a training exercise.
