Meanwhile, firefighters freed four people from a car that ploughed into woodland off the A21 at about 4.40am today.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said the car was difficult to access off the road between the Scotney Castle roundabout and the old Little Chef.

Two crews had to cut away trees to reach the vehicle and release the four people using hydraulic cutting equipment.
