Police at Maidstone West railway station

Armed officers have arrested a man outside Maidstone West railway station on suspicion of drug offences.

The drama unfolded this afternoon in London Road, where six police cars rushed after reports that a man was seen holding a knife.

British Transport Police (BTP) have confirmed they were called to reports of an argument.

A BTP spokesman said: "We were called to Maidstone West station at 2.15pm following reports of an altercation outside the station.

"Our officers arrested one man in the station on suspicion of drug offences.

"Inquiries into the incident are currently ongoing."

Kent Police said they were initially called to reports of a person using threatening behaviour and that he may have been holding a weapon.

However, no weapon was located.

An ambulance spokesman said paramedics were called to reports of a man who was unwell on platform two.
