CCTV released of woman as man arrested after pensioner's cash and cards stolen when strangers help him with shopping in Maidstone

A man has been arrested after a pensioner had cash and bank cards stolen by strangers who offered to help him home with his shopping.

The 41-year-old has been bailed until November 13 after being detained in Brenchley Gardens in Maidstone on Thursday.

Police have released CCTV of a woman they want to trace after the incident, where a man in his 80s was approached in the town centre.

After the strangers offered to help him take his shopping home, they left his address in James Whatman Way.

It was then the victim realised cash, bank cards and tobacco had been stolen.

Investigating officer, DC Toby Hawkey said: ‘We are continuing to investigate the incident and would like to speak to the woman in the CCTV image as she may have information that can assist the investigation.'
