Charley Gardiner from Rochester is taken by surprise by Star Wars characters at last year's Demoncon

The County Town will be like the scene from a sci-fi film this weekend, as dozens of characters take to the streets for a comic convention.

The seventh Demoncon event will be held at the Royal Star Arcade in High Street, Maidstone, on Sunday.

Last year, costumed characters from the Star Wars 501st Legion caused a stir as they wandered about the town meeting shoppers and encouraging them to visit the event, which this year is larger than ever.

Some 50 artists will be there sketching visitors and among the comic world stars taking part will be Transformers legends Simon Furman and Geoff Senior, who were responsible for the original 70s creations. Their modern day counterpart Nick Roche will also be flying in.

Doors open at 11am, with the main event lasting until 4pm, before things get started again for an after party in the evening including music from One Day Elliott and Go-Zilla.

The event is organised by the Grinning Demon store in the High Street. For details visit www.thegrinningdemon.com. Tickets will cost £5 or £6 on the door.
