Boxers will be going head-to-head to raise money in the name another fighter: Maidstone mum Hayley Martin.

The 30-year-old is raising money for the oncology ward at the town’s hospital in Hermitage Lane, where she is being treated for terminal cancer.

The event, which will involve 14 amateur bouts, is expected to attract 900 spectators to Mote Park Leisure Centre on Saturday, April 18.

It is being organised by Lee Owen, who runs Westree ABC in the Park Wood estate and Olympia Boxing in Kings Hill, along with Westree coaches Bradley Uquhart and Eddie Henderson, after they heard about Hayley’s story.

They teamed up with John Counsell, who set up a group called Hayley’s Heroes to raise money for a dream holiday for his friend, and is now helping her add to the £10,000 she has already given to Maidstone Hospital.

Mr Counsell said: “The show is called Fighters For a Fighter in honour of Hayley’s epic fight against cancer.”

Hayley, from Loose Road, was diagnosed with bowel cancer two years ago in 2011, and underwent surgery and six months of chemotherapy.

However, after getting the all-clear she was told in September, 2013, just four months after she gave birth to Freddie, it had returned and was inoperable.

The event starts at 6pm and tickets cost £10 from John on 07718 883434.
