A fly-tipper has been caught on camera dumping toys, furniture, and a bird cage down a country lane.

Covert CCTV footage taken on Burberry Lane in Leeds, near Maidstone, captured Steven Crowley dumping household waste earlier this year.

Among the items dumped on May 7 was a two-seater recliner sofa, a divan bed base, children's toys, garden furniture, and a large bird case.

Crowley, of Grasslands, Langley, had his vehicle seized by 3.30pm the same day.

The 61-year-old appeared at Maidstone Magistrates Court where he admitted to fly-tipping.

He was ordered to pay £795, including a £400 fine and £150 clean-up compensation.

Jamie Duffy, waste crime manager at Maidstone Borough Council, said: "We take a zero tolerance approach to fly tipping in the borough and will prosecute anyone found to be dumping waste illegally, using covert CCTV if necessary.

"Fly-tipping is a serious crime and is expensive for the council to clear away.

"If you’ve witnessed a fly tip take place report it online via www.maidstone.gov.uk, click through the report it button, and the Waste Crime team will investigate.”
