A seven-year-old boy was pulled from the bottom of a leisure centre pool at a swimming party.

The youngster, who was at a birthday pool party, was reportedly unconscious when he was hauled out of the water by an adult swimmer at Maidstone’s Leisure Centre.

He is believed to have been submerged for around one to two minutes and was rushed to the Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury.

The lad had regained consciousness and was breathing by the time paramedics arrived at the centre, off Willow Way, around 5.15pm last Wednesday.

James Reynolds, centre manager at Maidstone Leisure Trust, said: “Our lifeguard noticed a child in difficulty under the water and quickly initiated a rescue. An ambulance was called and paramedics took the boy to hospital.

"We understand the child has made a full recovery and I would like to thank our team for their prompt actions.”
