A broken down crane caused rush-hour delays on the A249 this aftenoon.

The machinery blocked the Sittingbourne-bound carriageway at Detling Hill shortly before 3.50pm, leading to both lanes being closed while it was moved.

The road reopened at 4.20pm.

Kent Police's Road Policing Unit thanked a helpful tractor driver, who helped to tow the crane and clear the carriageway.

It comes after an earlier crash near the Stockbury roundabout.
