There were lengthy delays heading out of Maidstone this evening.

Both lanes were closed on the A229 Royal Engineers Road towards the M20 after an earlier broken down vehicle had blocked a lane.

According to KCC Highways, delays eventually cleared at around 6pm.

Police were called to deal with the crash

KCC Highways initially tweeted to say the closure was due to a 'police incident'.

A police spokesman said: “There was a broken down vehicle blocking a live lane in this road, heading out of Maidstone.

“The vehicle has now been moved.”
