A broken down bus added to Maidstone's traffic woes when it blocked a busy town centre route.

The vehicle was obstructing the middle lane of The Broadway, outside Matalan, from about 9.30am.

Workers from Kent Highways were directing traffic around the double decker until was moved just before 10.30am.

The incident is one of many which turned the town into near gridlock this morning.

It's thought motorists were driving through Maidstone to avoid tailbacks on the M20 - caused by an earlier crash.
