The driver of a bus which hit and killed a woman had no time to react after she stepped into the road, an inquest heard.

Louise Friday was hit by a single-decker park and ride bus along the LondonRoad near The Pippin pub on April 30.

The 44-year-old, who had learning difficulties, had been into the pub, where she worked two days a week, to have a cup of tea and say hello to her colleagues.

Driver Graham White was heading towards Maidstone at about 1.50pm, the inquest at County Hall, Maidstone, heard on Wednesday.

Mr White saw her at the side of the road but said she gave no indication she was about to cross. It is believed Miss Friday, of New Road, Ditton, might not have been wearing her hearing aid.

Deputy coroner for mid Kent and Medway Andrew Campbell-Tiech recorded a verdict of accidental death.

Organ donations from Miss Friday saved the life of a three-day-old baby and helped another seven. Her family thanked the emergency services and said their thoughts and sympathies are with Mr White as they understood it had been traumatic for him.
