The whole length of Busbridge Road in Loose, near Maidstone, is currently closed to through traffic while Kent County Council carries out surface repairs.

And on Friday morning, drivers reported sitting in near stationary traffic trying to reach the town-centre.

An alternative route for the Loose closure is via Well Street, Forstal Lane, New Cut and Stockett Lane.

The work should be completed by tommorrow, Saturday, but the road could remain closed until Monday.

Drivers should follow the advice on local signs and barriers.

Meanwhile the Highways Agency is trying to establish why congestion was so bad on Friday morning.
