The mother of a teenage girl struck by a car on her way home from school has issued a plea for the driver – who she believes was another parent – to apologise.

Viana Simmons, a 17-year-old dancer, suffered bruising after she was hit by a car in September, in Oakwood Road in Maidstone, on her way home from St Simon Stock Catholic School.

But the driver fled, leading her mother Susie to appeal for information to the accident.

However, she has since been told the driver of the car was the mother of a pupil in the same year as her own daughter.

Mrs Simmons said: “She didn’t stop and she drove off. It is upsetting to know it is another parent. It is another mother. She left my daughter on the pavement like a dog. I really wanted the authorities to deal with it.”

Mrs Simmons revealed Viana has suffered from psychological trauma as a result of the incident, which took place at around 3.10pm on Tuesday, September 12. Police investigated but have concluded there is not enough evidence to pursue a prosecution.

Mrs Simmons said: “Because there were no injuries she can’t be charged.

“I have not quite let go of it and I feel like I haven’t had the support of anybody.

“I feel like my daughter deserves a letter of apology because she didn’t stop and she didn’t care.”
