A cannabis dealer who was caught after a crash in Larkfield last year must pay back more than £6,000.

Joseph Cantwell, 23, tried to hide a bag of cannabis in bushes after crashing in Lunsford Lane last March.

Police discovered the bag and subsequently searched his car and home address.

Officers discovered more cannabis and £5,960.

The Cygnet Close resident was given a nine month suspended sentence in December after admitting to possessing cannabis with intent to supply.

At a confiscation hearing at Maidstone Crown Court last Friday, Cantwell was ordered to pay back £6,060.

The sum included the £5,960 seized by police and a further £100 from his bank account.

Det Insp Annie Clayon from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate said: "At the conclusion of a criminal case, my investigators work continues.

"This man has been ordered to pay back this money as part of the Proceeds of Crime Act which ensures that he did not financially benefit from his drug dealing activity.

"We will continue to use legislation to pursue offenders and seize any cash or assets that we can prove they have obtained through criminal behaviour."
