Car driver crashes into field

A MOTORIST is seriously ill in hospital after his car careered off the main A249 at Iwade, near Sittingbourne, and crashed into a field.
The 41-year-old man, from Sittingbourne, was driving towards the Kingsferry Bridge at about 5.30pm on Thursday when he veered off the road shortly after the Grovehurst roundabout.
His red F registration Honda eventually stopped 150 yards into the cattle field, with him trapped unconscious inside.
Firefighters were called to the scene to cut the man free. He regained consciousness and was taken to hospital with head injuries.
His condition was later said to be stable.
Police closed the nearby sliproad on to the A249, causing long tailbacks. Difficult ground conditions hampered recovery of the car.
