Smoke billows from a car on fire on the A249 Detling Hill - causing traffic gridlock this afternoon.

Queues built up as the road was closed for more than two hours.

The vehicle caught alight on the Sittingbourne-bound carriageway at about 1.55pm.

Police closed Detling Hill near to the Kent Showground as fire crews went to the scene.

At one point, queues stretched back to the M20 roundabout for J7.

The road was re-opened at about 4pm and congestion began to clear.
