Maidstone: Upper Stone Street shut after woman hit by car

A road out of a town centre is shut after a woman in her 20s was hit by a car and suffered head and leg injuries.

The accident happened at around 3pm on Upper Stone Street in Maidstone close to the junction with Brunswick Street.

Road users were advised to use alternative routes and avoid the area. Police and paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after the incident.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "We were called at 2.50pm on Wednesday to a collision between a car and a pedestrian in Upper Stone Street, Maidstone.

"Officers attended the scene alongside the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

"A woman, aged in her 20s, was taken to a local hospital for treatment. No serious injuries have been reported."

The road has reopened, but traffic is still queuing back onto the main bridge system.
