Commuters experienced delays on the A249 for several hours, due to an accident involving a trailer.

It had been attached to a van and overturned in a live lane.

The accident happened just before 10.20am by Detling Hill in the Maidstone-bound carriageway.

Drivers should approach the area with caution. Stock image

Oil was also spilled onto the road and the clean up was still underway at 11am.

Drivers were advised to use another route until the lane was reopened, just after 1pm.

No injuries have been reported.
