Have you ever wanted to be in a panto?

The Hazlitt Theatre is looking for young performers to join the cast of this year's production of Beauty and the Beast.

The show will run at the theatre in Earl Street from Saturday, November 30, to Tuesday, December 31, and will star former footballer and singer, and I'm a Celebrity - Get My Out Of Here contestant Jake Quickenden.

The rest of the cast will be announced on June 24.

The theatre is looking for dancers who are aged between the ages of six and 17 at the time that rehearsals begin in September. An element of acting will be involved.

Successful applicants will not be required to perform at every show, rather they will be put into rotating teams of between six and eight.

Auditions will be at The Hazlitt on Sunday, July14, between 10.30am and 1pm for junior school pupils, and between 2pm and 5.30pm for senior schoolchildren. Registration is from 10am and 1.30pm respectively.

The panto's production assistant and choreographer Lorna Thomas said: "We are so excited to be holding auditions to look for young dancers who have a passion for dance to perform.

"For me, it's the children that make panto such a magical experience. For some it's their very first time on stage and we use this to help build confidence and make it an experience they will always remember."

The audition will take the form of a dance workshop. Those attending will be taught a routine and asked to perform it in groups.

No-one will be "cut" on the day, rather all the participants will receive an email during the following week.

Dancers should bring suitable footwear and clothing, and take snacks and water with them.

On arrival, dancers will be asked to fill out a short form. This can be done in advance by requesting the form from hazlitt.productions@parkwoodtheatres.co.uk
