The alleged assault happened in Fremlin Walk

Delays were caused in Maidstone town centre this afternoon by drivers turned away from a car park.

Tailbacks have formed in Fairmeadow, near to Fremlin Walk shopping centre, and on the bridge system.

The centre said it closed the top floor of its three-storey car park on advice from Kent Highways to help ease congestion.

All floors are now open.

The site has been charging people a £2 flat rate on weekdays and £3 on weekends after recent flooding damaged its barriers.

There were concerns the lower rate would attract commuters.
