A drug dealer has been locked up for more than five years after a stun gun was seized in East Malling.

Colin Arnold, previously of Hollingworth Road, Maidstone, was arrested in April after police raided a house he had been staying at in Ruskin Close.

Five grams of cocaine, more than 30 bags of cannabis and the weapon, which was disguised as a mobile phone, were discovered.

The 56-year-old claimed in interview the excessive haul of drugs was for personal use and he thought the stun gun was an old iPhone which doubled up as a torch.

Arnold admitted possessing a prohibited weapon but denied possession of drugs with intent to supply and was convicted by a jury.

He was jailed for five years and two months — two months for breaching a previously imposed suspended sentence, two years for possessing a disguised firearm and three years for the drugs offences.

Det Con Scott Ennals, who led the investigation, said: "Arnold was dealing in Class A drugs and was also in possession of a weapon capable of releasing thousands of potentially fatal volts.

Arnold insisted the drugs found were for personal use

"The fact that Arnold has also breached a suspended sentence when he was arrested shows how little regard he has for the law.

"The prison sentence he has now received is a substantial one and one which reflects the seriousness of these offences."
