A sozzled woman punched her boyfriend and then pulled a knife from her bra and stabbed him in the leg, a court heard.

Bonni Draper was fishing with Ben Taylor in Brenchley Gardens in Maidstone and claimed she put the blade inside her bra for safe-keeping.

A row broke out between them in front of families on September 1 and 24-year old Draper punched Mr Taylor in the face.

It was when he shoved her hard and she fell that she pulled out the small knife while on the ground and stabbed him.

Maidstone Crown Court heard Draper, who had put away three quarters of a litre of vodka and two bottles of wine, was angry with Mr Taylor because he broke up a row earlier between her and another man.

CCTV footage showed the victim limping, holding his leg. He used his T-shirt to bandage the 2cm wound.

He did not want Draper prosecuted and police had to rely on the CCTV film.

Draper, of Trinity House, Church Street, Maidstone, admitted wounding, common assault and having a blade.

She said she had no memory of the stabbing because of the vast amount of alcohol she had drunk.

Tom Dunn, defending, Draper, who has previous convictions for violence and drugs, was drinking from the morning “to get through the day”.

She wept as Judge Julian Smith said her lamentable reluctance to comply with three previous community orders meant jail was unavoidable.

He accepted she was not a lost cause and while the attack was “extremely unpleasant”, he said it was not as serious as he first thought.

Jailing her for a year, Judge Smith told her: “There are lessons we learn in life at all stages. When opportunities are presented to us we must take them. If we fail, the consequences can be immediate and they can be long-term.

“You were pushed to the ground and I don’t blame your partner for this, as you had thumped him in the face.

“But it degenerated to something much worse, and a stab in the leg could kill someone.”
