A man believed to be in his 30s has been found dead at Barming railway station.

British Transport Police were called to the station in Hermitage Lane, Maidstone, just after 3am on Tuesday, August 11, to reports of a body near the track.

Paramedics also attended but the man, who lived locally, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency services were called

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: "The incident is not being treated as suspicious and the man's family has been informed."

Southeastern warned of possible disruption to early morning services, but trains between Ashford International and London Victoria via Maidstone East ran as normal.

The line reopened at 6.17am.

The death was the second on Kent's railways network on August 11, after a woman was hit and killed by a train at Broadstairs station.

Both incidents have increased the total number of train deaths in the county this year to 11.
