Lewis Hamilton took time out of his Italian Grand Prix schedule to meet a budding film maker from Mid Kent College's Maidstone Campus.
George Ellsworth, who has just finished a level three diploma in creative media production, won a video competition organised by the Motorsport Association.
The 20-year-old, of Pluckley Road in Smarden, produced a video called Respect which highlights the importance of following the Highway Code.
His entry impressed judges, who included Sky Sports F1 presenters Natalie Pinkham and Johnny Herbert, and his prize was a visit to Monza over the weekend.
He met the 2008 world champion in the pit garage and also scooped grandstand seats for the race.
Creative media production course tutor Ross Buttery said: "Our students have been so excited about this trip and it's been better than we could have imagined.
"It's been an interesting and challenging project for everyone and to be putting the spotlight on road safety is really important."
