Firefighters were called to a flat in Shepway on Thursday evening after a fire broke out in the kitchen.

Two engines were sent to the property in Westmorland Green shortly after 7.40pm.

The small blaze was out when crews arrived, however, they remained at the flat for 40 minutes in order to clear the smoke.

A man who was in the property at the time was given oxygen therapy by firefighters at the scene.

The cause of the fire remains unclear.
