Big names came to small venues across Maidstone as the town's Fringe Festival proved a hit with all ages this year.

The festival still has one night to go tonight, but kicked off in the town centre on Thursday evening, with acts playing pubs and clubs, cafes and art galleries, and for the first time, Jubilee Square during the day.

Ivan's All Stars who played at the Druid's Arms

Organiser Clive Austen, who runs the festival with Zoe Sparkle, said: "It was the first time we'd had music on Jubilee Square and it was nice, especially for families with young children who might not have wanted to go to the pub gigs.

"It's been a great atmosphere. We've had some big names - Glenn Tilbrook was a highlight and I think the support acts really enjoyed getting to play alongside someone so famous."

Fate and the Juggler who were at the Royal Albion

David Migden and the Twisted Roots headlined Earls on Sunday night, and David himself has been nominated for a British Blues award, as has King King Size Slim, who played Earls during the day.

The event continues today at the Style and Winch in Earl Street, from 2pm to 10pm, where landlord Dave Savory also has a replica X-Wing from Star Wars on show, and the Royal Albion from 5pm with karoake.
