Five hurt in crash

A man had to be cut free from his car and another four people were injured when two cars collided head-on.

The man was trapped in his vehicle after the crash on the A21 near Tonbridge at 11.50pm yesterday.

Four people travelling in the other car were also injured. Three of who were said to be serious.

All five casualties were taken to the Kent and Sussex Hospital in Tunbridge Wells, in a convoy of ambulances.

Tony Kemp, a volunteer immediate care nurse with the South East Coast Immediate Care Scheme (SIMCAS), was on scene.

He said: "This was a very serious accident at a notorious blackspot, the teamwork from all of the emergency services as well as from a passing hospital doctor was excellent."

The road was closed for several hours for forensic teams to investigate.
